Northeast China 7 Day Cultural Tour

Picked up from your hotel in Beijing, you will be guided to board on a 14 hour overnight train to Dandong. Arriving at Dandong Railway Station, you are met by our English speaking tour guide in Dandong at the station exit.

Separated by Yalu River, Dandong is a border city opposite to Sinuiju, North Korea. Overnight on train ( 4-bed cabin ).

Arriving in Dandong early in the morning, met by your tour guide in Dandong and transferred to your hotel in Dandong for buffet breakfast. After breakfast start your whole day tour in Dandong which includess:

Tiger Great Wall is a restored stretch of the Wall with a length of 1250 meters with a sea level of 146.3 meters. Tiger Great Wall was built in 1469, often regarded as the eastern tip the Great Wall built in Ming Dynasty. In the scenic area, there is a Great Wall Museum – Tiger Great Wall Museum, one of the four Great Wall Museums in China. Standing on the Hushan Mountain (Tiger GreatWall ) where you can have a bird's-eye view of Yalu River and the North Korean Border.

Then visit Korea War Museum, officially known as Anti-US Aggression & Aid Korea Memorial. The memorial was inaugurated in 1958 and renovated and expanded in 1984. The whole memorial comprises three principal buildings – the Memorial Pagoda, the Exhibition Hall and the life-sized Diorama Hall. The Exhibition Hall has 10 show rooms displaying over 500 valuable prictures and 1000 artifacts, reproducing the magnificent scene of the War.

After lunch at a North Korean restaurant with singing and dancing, continue to have a boat trip on Yalu River. Take a speed boat from the pier for a 30-minute boat ride allowing you to have a glimpse of the North Korea's Border.

Stroll along the"Broken Birdge" , the first bridge ever built over Yalu River. It was constructed between August 1909 and October 1911, an iron bridge, 944.2 meters long, 11 meters wide with 12 arches. In December, 1950, the bridge was bombed by US Air Force during the Korean War. The bridge has been left less than halfway cross the river from Chinese riverside, hence the name of Duanqiao ( Broken Bridge). Now it has become an intriguing sight in Dandong. You can stroll along the Broken Bridge, feeling the Korean War by looking at the bullet and shell holes and bomb-damaged remains.

After breakfast, drive 28km to the northeast of Dandong and reach Ji'an. Ji’an is the city in the southern tip of Jilin Province, China. It is a small border city, just across Yalu River from North Korea. Ji’an has been on the limelight since 2004 when Ji’an’s extensive Koguryo ancient cities, pyramids, ruins and tombs were listed as UNESCO Cultural Heritage ( officially known as Capital Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Koguryo Kingdom). Stay overnight in Ji'an.

Guonei City

The Koguryo Kingdom was founded in the present-day Huanren County of Liaoning Province. It moved its capital to Guonei City in the current city of Ji’an in Jilin Province in 3 A.D. At the same time another military defense city of Weinayan City outside Guonei City was built to enhance the defense of Guonei City. Later Wenayan City was expanded and renamed Wandu City.

Wandu Mountain City

Wandu City is located on the top of the jagged Wandu Peak, about 2.5km from Ji’an’s city center with the highest elevation of 676 meters. It is a typical mountain city in the early and middle period of Koguryo Kingdom. It served both as a defense city and also an imperial city for a period of time.

Ji’an Tomb Group

A great number of tombs of noblemen of the ancient Koguryo Kingdom are scattered around a gated park of the southern slope of Yushan on the outskirts of Ji’an. The Yushan southern slope faces Yalu River on its south.

Jiangjunfen ( General’s Tomb )

The so-called General Tomb is located at the foot of Longshan Mountain 4km northeast of Jian’ city center. The tomb resembles the pyramids in Egypt, hence the name of “Oriental Pyramid”. It is estimated it is the tomb of the 2oth ruler of Koguryo Kingdom.

Ji’an City Museum

Ji’an City Museum was inaugurated in 1958, expanded and renovated for several times. This museum is definitely your first stop to explore the small city of Ji’an. It accommodates the archaeological findings and discoveries of the ancient Koguryo Kingdom. There are about 6500 artifacts relative to the ancient Koguryo Kingdom.

After lunch, continue to drive 400km to reach Changbai Nature Reserve, under the program of UNESCO's "Man and Biosphere", which covers more than 2,100 square kilometers. Changbaishan boasts the azure Tianchi Lake ( Heaven Lake ) and Changbai Waterfall. Stay overnight at Changbaishan.

After breakfast, you will spend whole day to explore Changbaishan Natural Reserve. Your Changbaishan day trip includes:

Tianchi ( Heaven Lake)

A two million year old crater lake, 13 km in circumference is located at the sea-level of 2194 m, circled by 16 mountainous peaks. The North Korea and China border actually passes through Heaven Lake, and the Koreans considers the waters of the lake to be sacred.

Changbai Waterfall

The waterfall is located on the north slope of Changbai Mountain and 1,250 meters away from Tianchi ( Heavenly Lake). The Changbai Waterfall is a 68m tall, a crater lake waterfall with the largest falling head in the world and listed in the Guinness.

Underground Forest

It is also known as “Valley Forest” and is a forest landscape formed by the eruption of Changbai Mountain main volcanic cone. The valley wall is up to 50 meters tall, and the north-south length at the bottom is about 3,000 meters. Old trees at the valley bottom are reaching to the sky.

At the end of the day trip, resturn to your hotel at Changbaishan.

After breakfast, drive 380km to get to the city of Jillin. Check-in at your hotel and take a rest for the rest of the day.

1. Songhua Lake

Songhua Lake is located in north of Jilin City. The total length is above 180 kilometers. The magnificent rime ice on trees along the banks of the Songhua River is the biggest draw in winter.

2. Jilin Catholic Church

Standing out from the northen bank of Songhua River, Jilin Catholic Church is a beautiful French designed catholic church. It is lit up really effectively at night and even in the daylight.

3. Meteorite Museum

Situated at the south bank of beautiful Songhua River, the museum is the only meteorite museum in China. At 15:02:36 on March 8, 1976, a rare meteorite shower fell in Yongji County, north suburb of Jilin City, Jilin Province, which is world well-known Jilin Meteorite Shower.

4. Jilin Beishan Park

Located about 4 kms the northwest of Jilin city, Beishan Park is known as the ideal place for its summer lotus flowers and winter "rime ice trees". It is legendarily regarded as "scared ground for nine dragons"

After Chinese lunch, you will take a 6 and half hour highspeed train from Jilin City Railway Station to Beijing South Railway Station. You are met and transferred to your hotel in Beijing and end your trip to Northeast China.
