Picked up from your downtown hotel within the third ring road in Beijing around 12:30 at noon and have 2-hour drive to Mutianyu Great Wall. You will be arranged to hike westward from the restored Mutianyu Great Wall to the unrestored Jiankou Great Wall.
The Mutianyu Great Wall was built in 1404. The fortifications and the Great Wall here are featured by many watchtowers on overlapping mountain ranges. The wall, built with slabs of stone, is crenellated on both sides with bricks. The wall provided better protection and ward off attacks with Jiankou in the west and Gubeikou in the east.
Jiankou Great Wall is the greatest and most photogenic section of the Great Wall around Beijing. It is wild and totally unrestored. The tumbledown and crumbling brickwork snakes along a narrow mountain ridge.
The 4 hour hike ( about 8km) allows you to enjoy both the renovated and unrestored sections of the Great Wall of China. After walking westward ups and downs on the rugged wall along the mountain ridges past the wild and crumbling towers on Jiankou Great Wall, you will arrive at Zhengbeilou Tower (Sharp North Tower ) atop Jiankou Great Wall, viewing the beautiful sunset and having a unique dinner on Jiankou Great Wall. Tonight stay overnight in a tent inside Zhengbeilou Tower atop the wall. Zhengbeilou Tower is most visited by Jiankou hikers. It is a massive 4-eye watch tower at the sea level of 915m with a panoramic view of the Upward Flying Eagle Tower, Tianti (Sky Ladder) and Beijing Knot in the west and Ox Horn Edge Wall in the east.
Dinner: Barbecue (Lamb, chicken and sesame cakes), peanuts, potato chips, one fried vegetable and one can of beer or soft drink ( two cans person)
Tent: Two share one tent with mat and sleeping bags.
