The present place of Beijing Zoo was originally the imperial garden in the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). Various plants and trees were cultivated and animals were raised here in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911). After 1949, the site was renovated and was later well known as the West Suburban Park.
