When visit the northeast of Inner Mongolia, Aoluguya Reindeer Village is usually included on your trip after you visit Shiwei or Moerdaoga. Aoluguya Reindeer Village is officially known as Aoluguya Ewenki Ethnic Township (敖鲁古雅鄂温克民族乡).

By road, Aoluguya Ewenki Ethnic Township is located 472km north of Hulunbuir City, 334km northeast of Shiweizhen, 268km northeast of Moerdaoga National Forest Park and about 223km north of Genhe City.
Actually, Aoluguya Ewenki Ethnic Township is under the jurisdiction of Genhe City. So once you get to Genhe City, relatively it is easier to connect the local transport to get to Aoluguya Town.
The township has a population of over 1450 people and among them there are over 200 Ewenki people. “Aoluguya” literally means “an area of dense forest” in Ewenki ( Evenki ) language. “Ewenki or Evenki” has the meaning of “people who live in forested mountains”.
Aoluguya Ewenki Ethnic Township occupies an area of 1767.2 square km. Its population is composed of six ethnic groups including Ewenki, Daur (Dawoer), Mongolian, Manchuria, Russian and Han. There are plentiful buildings in the Aoluguya Township – schools, a museum, Health Care Center, police station and old folks home.
Ewenki Ethnic people are a group of ancient minority with a long history. They used to live and hunt in the forested mountains and live on hunting and raise reindeers. Now they have walked out of the deep forested mountains on to the pastoral area and and the farmland.
The cone shaped house is the temporary house for Evenki live in forests.

The historical study shows that in history there were three sub-groups of Ewenki people – Suolun, Tonggusi and Yukute. Suolun people belongs to farming tribes, Tonggusi nomadic tribes and Yukute is the famous tribe of Reindeer.
At the end of 1957, the name of the tribes of Ewenki people was recovered and unified as “Ewenki”. In 1965, the Ewenki people began to move from the forested mountains and settled down by the Aoluguya River.

The Aoluguya’s local economy has developed from the single hunting or herding to the multi-economies including industry, agriculture, animal husbandry, trade and commerce and tourism, etc.
You have three choices going from Hulunbuir City to Aoluguya Town. For long-distance buses and trains, the city of Genhe (根河)is a good transit hub where you can transfer either for the local buses or taxis to reach Aoluguya Town.

Self-drive The distance between Hulunbuir City to Aoluguya: 334km by road. First drive along the national highway no.SC201, then drive along the National Highway No.SC301.
Long-distance buses Everyday, there are several long-distance buses running between Hulunbuir City and Genhe City. When you get to Genhe City, you take the local taxi or buese to Aoluguya Ewenki Ethnic Township (4km).
