798 Art Space (798艺术区) is situated in Dashanzi area, Jiuxianqiao, Chaoyang District, so it is also called DAD (Dashanzi Art District). It is a new rising, avant-garde and trendy space that hosts high-level cultural, artistic and commercial activities. 798 is the Chinese equivalent of Greenwich Village and SoHo and has attracted visits from presidents, movie stars and royalty.
798 Art Space is set up in an abandoned military factory, which was built under Chairman Mao’s leadership to solve the shortage of modern electronic equipment and to help speed up China’s industrialization. The whole military factory was divided into several small factories such as 706, 751, 761, 797 and 798. Factory 798 was the largest one of these small factories.
Covered an area of 600,000 square meters, 798 Art Space is consist of many design rooms, art gallery, exhibition space, artists’ studios, fashion shops, restaurants, bars and many other elements of culture and art, which is also the most attractive element for most visitors in Beijing tour. Important international art exhibitions, art and fashion events are often held in 798 Art Space which attracts a great number of tourists to visit 798. In 2003, 798 Art Sparce was listed as one of the world’s 22 most representative art centers in 2003.






Take Subway Line 12 to Gaojiayuan Station Exit B, or Line 14 to Wangjing South Station Exit B1 or Jiangtai Station Exit A. Bus stops near the district include Dashanzi Lukou South, Wangyefen, Dashanzi Lukou East, Caihong Road and Wanhong Road.
