Beijing former residences of celebrities guide on Dong Biwu’s Former Home with detailed information and pictures.
Located at 24 Xiaoshiqiao Hutong in Jiugulou Dajie in Xicheng District, this was originally the house of Sheng Xuanhuai, minister of postal services during the Qing Dynasty. It thus got the name Shengyuan.
Dong Biwu lived and received guests in the two-story building in the courtyard. Now it is the Zhuyuan Hotel and is a cultural relic under Xichehg District’s protection.
Dong Biwu (1886-1975) was a lawyer, scholar and educational from Huang’an in Hubei Province. After liberation in 1949, he was elected vice president and served as acting president of the People’s Republic of China.
