Former Home of Zhang Shizhao and Qiao Guanhua

Located at 51 Shijia Hutong in Dongcheng District, this quadrangle house has three courtyards and is now public housing protected by Beijing Municipality.

The renowned scholar Zhang Shizhao was from Changsha in Hunan Province. Early during the Republic of China period, he was president of Peking University and China’s attorney general. After the People’s Republic of China was founded, he was appointed director of the Central Research Institute of Cultural and History.

Qiao Guanhua (1913-83) was a well-known diplomat from yancheng in Jiangsu Province. The son-in-law of Zhang Shizhao, he was foreign minister in the People’s Republic of China.
